The Pet Sitter of Boise, LLC pet sitters are independent contractors, not employees. As such, we cannot, by law, train them. They must already have the skills, compassionate, integrity, character and that special something that it takes to be the best. Finding someone like this to represent my pet sitting business is like finding a gem in a pile of rocks. We are continually searching for these rare people. So many people tell me they want to pet sit because they love pets. Let’s face it, who doesn’t love pets? Caring for pets, from the heart, is another story.

A few weeks ago, one of our good pet sitting clients, we’ll call her Mary, for the story’s sake, emailed me. Their dog, Noodle, suddenly needed ACL surgery. The timing could not be worse….you see, both Mary and her husband are accountants, and, well, as we all know, it’s tax season.  They were putting in long hours at the office and Mary had to go out of town for a week too!

ACL surgery has a 6-8 week recovery period and requires the dog to be confined and monitored, only getting out for short walks and potty breaks.

Mary asked if we could help. Scott is their main sitter, and Mary wants him exclusively. I called Scott and we discussed the situation. Mary would need Scott for 9 days straight, 12 hours per day. We talked it over and came up with a rate that was reasonable and fair. Fortunately, pet sitting is slow right now, so Scott was able to do it.

The pet sitters text the client and me after each visit. In this case, Scott texted twice per day. I read the texts and could tell Scott was deeply compassionate with Noodle. He talked about her good days and bad days and monitoring her medications, bedding, food and her environment to keep her comfortable. Scott’s attitude during the long days remained positive and hopeful that Noodle would heal quickly and not suffer. By the end of the nine days, Noodle had made great progress.

This is the email I got from Mary the next day after the end of the job:

“Hi Scott and Julie,

I just want to say thank you again.  Scott took fantastic care of Noodle and Cami while I was gone.  Noodle had her check up yesterday and Dr. Murphy was happy with her progress and how her wound is healing.  Noodle will be starting physical therapy on Friday to get her strength back in her leg.  I would not have been able to go on my business trip if Scott wouldn’t have been willing to live at our house for so long each day so thank you, thank you thank you!

Thanks again.  We give your business rave reviews to our friends and co-workers!

-Mary”
